Test cricket has been played since 1877. Since then, there has been a rich collection of terms and a vast amount of records and statistics which was compiled by brilliant individual efforts. Here are some fascinating records compiled by Michael Pereira (amateur statistician)  for your amusement:
  • The first international match was played in New York between Canada and the USA in 1844. Canada won by 23 runs.
  • The first recognized test match was played between Australia and England at Melbourne  in March 1877 Australia beat England by 45 runs.
  • Dulip Mends of Sri Lanka score 105 in both innings of a test match. The only time identical scores were record in a test match.
  • Jacques Kallis has scored 10,000 runs and taken 200 wickets in both test and ODI.
  • Makhaya Ntini is the first black man to play test cricket for South Africa and Henry Oloong was the first black man to represented Zimbabwe in a test match.
  • Frank Worrel was the first black captain of the West Indies team.
  • Five players have scored double and single hundred in a test match. They are Doug Walters, Greg Chappell, Sunil Gavaskar, Lawrence Rowe and Brian Lara.
  • Graham Gooch scored 333 and 123  in the same test match at lords.
  • Lawrence Rowe scored double and single hundred on his debut 214- 100 n.o.
  • Brian Lara has scored of 501 in a first class match, and 400 and 375 in test matches
  • Jim Laker and Anil Kumble have taken ten wickets in single innings.
  • Mohammed Azharruddin scored three consecutive centuries in the first three matches he played.
  • Four batsman has scored three hundred runs more than once in a test match; Don Bradman, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara and Chris Gayle.
  • Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschille Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh have hit six 6’s in an over.
  • Sachin Tendulkar scored 51 test hundreds, 48 ODI centuries, including 6 World Cup centuries.
  • Zaheer Abbas has scored centuries in each innings of a first class match 8 times.
  • Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullam both scored t20 centuries  in 50 balls.
  • George Headley, Ron Headley and Dean Headly are three generation of cricketers in a family. George and Ron played for West Indies and Dean played for England.
  • Jahangir Khan, Majid Khan and Bazid Khan are three generations of Pakistani cricketers. Jahangir played for India before the partition, while Majid and Bazid played for Pakistan. The famous player Imran Khan is their cousin.
  • Sachin Tendulkar is the first cricketer to score 2000 runs in world cup cricket history.
